Being A Parent
The first product I led: an Ionic app for parents in NHS EPEC sessions in London.
Summer 2018, and the parents already had phones
The NHS internship was not a hackathon. Parents coming to EPEC sessions needed somewhere for the material that was not a photocopied wad in a bag. I was the intern they let lead a small team. We built Being A Parent in Ionic 3, JavaScript, and Firebase, with SQLite when the room had no signal.
June to October is a short season. We shipped something onto a Play testing track. It was modest and it was theirs. Years later, in 2023, I opened the old tree and rebuilt the shape on Ionic 7 so the idea could leave Angular 5 behind. Same job. Less archaeology.
What I still take from that summer
I learned how to run a standup when you are the youngest person in the room, and how an app for a clinic is allowed to be quiet. No cinematic hero. A list of sessions and a login that works. That is still how I judge mobile work.
