Forgotten Passage

A cave I built in Unity where you find your way by listening, not by following a glowing arrow.

Everyone else was showing polygons. I wanted a dark room.

Finals year at King's I had two individual projects. This was the one I could feel in my chest. Most student VR pieces lead with a gun or a GUI. I wanted a limestone throat of a cave where the next step is a sound you lean toward. Forgotten Passage took from October 2019 to June 2020. Unity, C#, Blender, Ambisonic beds placed like furniture.

You drop in. Distance and occlusion do the wayfinding. No floating arrow. The piece is short on purpose. One idea, finished enough to walk through without explaining it with a caption.

Why I still talk about this one

I wrote about it later, about sound and presence, because the craft was in the mix. It is not a store listing. It is the reason VR still sits in my about line. If you put a headset on and the cave tells you where to go, the year was worth it.
